Solar Pond: a major step towards the use of renewable energies in the European industry

Jun 27, 2013

The industry is a major consumer of energy, and thus we see a growing interest in renewable sources to meet basic commitments to sustainable development. At present, two criteria are essential for a company to survive in the future: economic efficiency and environmental respect.

The Solar Pond responds to these points by reducing energy consumption (and therefore costs), promoting waste management and decreasing CO2 emissions.

Solar Pond will be the first built in Europe and aims to be a role model in the use of renewables. The project has been carried out at Solvay premises in Martorell (Barcelona). Solvay is a close collaborator of Energy Campus. Currently, the Solar Pond is under construction at Escúzar (Granada). The teachers involved in this project are César Valderrama and José Luis Cortina, research group SETRI del Departament d'Eng. Química (ETSEIB).
