The UPC showcase its technological talent at Mobile World Congress 2013

Feb 22, 2013

The UPC is the only Spanish public university slated to participate in the GSMA Mobile World Congress 2013, to be held from 25 to 28 February in Barcelona. The UPC will be showcasing its most cutting-edge innovations in the field of mobile technology, and spotlighting the technological talent of its researchers in the field and the many ways this technology can be used to make companies more competitive.

Within the framework of the GSMA Mobile World Congress, the UPC will promote the contributions of its research groups to the development of emerging technologies, such as LTE-A (Long-Term Evolution Advanced), which will allow 4G mobile telephones to achieve peak data rates of up to 1 Gbps, far higher than the peak rates available through today’s residential fibre-optic networks. The UPC has likewise made contributions in the field of Bluetooth low energy (BLE) technology and the Internet of Things, to enable the permanent, energy-efficient connection of multiple devices to the Internet, as well as in the area of Near Field Communication (NFC), a wireless technology that enables electronic payments and other applications via mobile phones. Some of the groups that are working on these technologies are, for instance, the Mobile Communications Research Group, the Signal Processing and Communications Group, the Wireless Communications Technologies group, the Array & Multichannel Processing Group and the Wireless Networks Group. These teams are based on the Barcelona and Baix Llobregat campuses.
