The UPC is coordinating an European project to reuse wasted Cork and generate energy
Feb 03, 2016
Ecorkwaste project, coordinated by Juan Pablo, professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering of the UPC, aims to demonstrate the different options for reusing cork and its technical, environmental and economic viability.
It foresees the construction of a pilot gasification center in the CTM of Manresa to evaluate the potential of used cork as substrates for energy production. The results of the tests will enable to develop a comprehensive plan for waste management for the cork industry.
With funding over one million euros from the European Union (EU) through the LIFE program, the project will last three years and is expected to be completed in late 2018.
