Lightning discharges produced by wind turbines

The set of observations recorded by the Lightning Research Group LRG, led by Prof. Joan Montanyà, from Campus Terrassa, in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), shows that under certain thunderstorm conditions, wind turbine blades can produce electric discharges.

The finding has been publish in the ‘Journal of Geophysical Research’ and ‘Nature’ and might help wind farms to prevent expensive damages.
