UPC cuts down energy consumption by 16%
Apr 12, 2013
One year and a half after the Plan for Eenergy Saving came into force, the results are already tangible and make achievable the university goal for 2014: cut down by 25% the energy consumption in relation to 2010.
The outputs resulting in a reduction of the power consumption exceed the goals initially set. Electricity consumption has been cut down by 10% and gas by 27% in relation to 2010.
In addition, the involvement of the community has grown remarkably, particularly in terms of maintenance, administration and users. At economic level, the total costs for 2012 were 15% higher than in 2010. However, the reduction in consumption has led to €0.6 million savings compared to the theoretical scenario of constant consumption. The reason why the cost has continued to rise is that the average price of energy has increased by 32% in electricity and by 27% in gas.
