Open platform for next-generation smart cities
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), research institution linked to the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Cisco, Barcelona City Council and several academic and technology partners, have successfully completed a "fog computing"proof of concept. The goal of the developers is to significantly reduce the complexity, cost and time of implementation of intelligent solutions to the city.
One of the key elements of the project is a platform exportable to other cities and vertical sectors. As a base platform for a multifunction 'Internet of Things' infrastructure, the pilot project will be exported to facilitate the digitization of other cities and other economic sectors (such as manufacturing, retail, healthcare, transport and energy).
