New biodegradable and energy-saving aqueous compound patented
Mar 06, 2014
Oriol Cusola, researcher at CELBIOTECH-UPC (Terrassa Campus), has patented an aqueous compound that allows to confer certain advanced properties to cellulose based material. The patent resulted from his PhD thesis, directed by Blanca Roncero and Cristina Valls, and from now on, it will be able to modify the surface of paper products in a simple way by using environmental friendly and biotechnological methods, without needing to stop the production at some point of the process.
Companies to implement the innovation shall become more competitive by saving energy, chemicals and transportation costs, since the compound can be concentrated for easy distribution. Main interest though, lies in the fact that this innovation is to facilitate the development of new high added valued products from cellulosic substrates obtained by environmental friendly biotechnological methods, which can revolutionize paper industry.
