How to generate energy resources from urban wastewater

The Group of Environmental Engineering and Microbiology (GEMMA) from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) is doing research on how to produce new energy resources and high-value products from the wastewater of urban, industrial and agricultural origin, through the European project INCOVER.

The proposed solutions include energy recovery in methane form and the production of other products such as bioplastics, organic acids, organic fertilizer and water for irrigation, which are tested in a pilot plant being built in the Agròpolis facilities, in Viladecans.
