FLEXICAST, energy saving in foundries
Nov 19, 2012
LABSON research group in collaboration with Fundiciones Roda to coordinate FLEXICAST project, funded by the FP7.
The FLEXICAST project presents knowledge-based technologies that aim to follow the way to transform the conventional (batch-by-batch) foundry process into a flexible (mold-by-mold) process. The proposal technologies will be applicable not only to new cast iron foundry lines, but also is readily available to be retro-fitted to existing plants. Some results are at least, a 30% energy reduction in comparison with conventional melting systems and a drastic reduction melt temperature scattering during molding process.
FLEXICAST consortium is made up of 14 partners: UPC·BarcelonaTech (Spain), Fundaciones Roda (Spain), CIMNE (Spain), Proservice (Italy), Ondarlan (Spain), Tecnalia (Spain), Sert (France), Ascamm (Spain), CNR (Italy), Comau (Italy), TSS Modena (Italy), Innospexion (Denmark), PUT Paznan (Poland) & Arca (Italy).
The project cost is 9.250M EURO, and the EU contribution 5.7M EURO.
