Energy efficient university accommodation

On February 4, UPCBarcelonaTech began the construction of the new university accommodation at Baix Llobregat Campus, located in the Mediterranean Technology Park.

Pius Font i Quer Residence, named in memory of the Catalan botanist, is aimed at students, professors, lecturers and researchers from UPC, as well as users from research centres and firms based in the PMT.

In total, there will be 160 flats with capacity for 187 places managed by RESA (Residencia de Estudiantes SA). The complex is made by 129 single studies, 28 single studios with shared kitchen, 2 disability-adapted studios and 14 doubled apartments with private bathroom, study area, air conditioning, telephone and Internet. Common areas include: study rooms, fitness centre and laundry, among others.

The 6055.83m2 three-storey building consists of two longitudinal blocks arranged west to east with a hallway on one side to maximize the use of solar power; it means all flats have natural light and proper ventilation.
In addition, the windows are equipped with insulated glass chamber and insulating materials used to control the noise between the different installation spaces.
