The Fundació BCN Formació Professional is a private nonprofit organization driven by the Barcelona City Council, for the purpose of social service. The foundation's mission is to participate in the socioeconomic development of the city by building a relationship between vocational training and the productive sector of the metropolitan area, enhancing proper training compatible with the productive system needs, and by facilitating the transition to work and the student full integration.

For three years the foundation has announced the FPEMPRÈN awards intending to aknowledge those business projects containing innovative ideas about a new product or service or improvements, from a business perspective and leading to a company set up. These projects should be developed as part of the training module in business and entrepreneurship.

In the 2012 edition, the awards include the special category called Energy Campus aimed at recognizing the innovative and technological improvements implemented by the project related to any of the four strategic areas of this Campus of International Excellence.
