Eight innovative projects seeking business angels

Mar 16, 2012

A group of 8 TBF emerged from the UPC.BarcelonaTech presented their projects to 25 investors on March 14 during the Investor's Day, an event organised by Innova Programme.

This initiative called Investor's Day is part of an action funded by the Ministerio de Industria, Energía y Turismo, through its programme Emprendemos Juntos. The programme has meant that for six months, the project teams were trained in several venture academy sessions to gain experience in aspects such as the invesment process, business valuation, negotiation techniques with investors or public presentations, in order to draw the attention of potential investors. The program aims to improve the growth of these projects and technology-based companies emerged from the UPC.

The eight innovative projects (5 spin off and 3 start-up, most of them emerged from UPC research projects) are linked to sectors such as ICT, motor, construction, chemical engineering, biotechnology and energy.

On of these projects is the iTesTiT, the most efficient solution to maintain energy systems. This spin off, resulted from a collaboration between MCIA (Motion Control and Industrial Applications) from Terrassa Campus and CTM, the Manresa Technology Center, offers the first fault prediction system that can be used to analyze all the operating variables of a wind turbine.

Specifically, the iTesTiT technology detects faults in electrical systems, the yaw system, generator, multiplier, and drive chain. These components account for up to 40% of all faults that occur in wind turbines. In Spain alone, the system created by the UPC’s MCIA could save the leading companies in the sector €15 million a year.
