27% of energy saving in the last four years

Mar 05, 2015

The UPC has reduced by 27% the energy consumption of campus buildings in the last four years. Initially, the energy efficiency target was set on 25% for 2014.

In 2011, the UPC launched the Energy Saving Plan in order to reduce energy consumption by 25% and thus contribute to the economic and environmental sustainability of the University. The results at the end of the plan implementation show that the energy consumption between 2011 and 2014 has been reduced by 27%, partly, thanks to the involvement of the community in the use and management of buildings.

For four years, electricity and gas consumption has been reduced by 20% and 40% respectively. The accumulated reduction is equivalent to the consumption of one year.

In economic terms, and despite the increase in the average price of energy, energy costs have been keept below five million euros.
