Smart Rural Grids

On 4-5 February, CITCEA-UPC members attended the kick-off meeting of the Smart Rural Grid project funded by the EU (FP7).

The aim of the project is to validate new technologies and devices for active management and smart grids in rural areas. Consumers themselves will be directly involved in the project to manage electricity demand. The project will work on the development of a system of forecasting and management of network congestion and imbalances in order to simplify and facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources. It is expected to respond to critical services for users in milliseconds.

The project runs for three years, is coordinated by the Estabanell i Pahisa Energia, and has a budget of 3.2 million euros.
