New catalyst to produce hydrogen from water and sunlight

Researchers from the Institut de Tècniques Energètiques (INTE-UPC) in collaboration with the University of Auckland (New Zealand) and the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Saudi Arabia), have developed a system to produce hydrogen from water and sunlight in a clean, renewable and profitable way.

This new photocatalyst produces more hydrogen than any other previously developed taking into account environmental issus, thus the clean production of hydrogen makes it the energy of the future.

The work has been published at Scientific Reports: Hydrogen production by Tuning the Photonic Band Gap with the Electronic Band Gap of TiO2
