Kick off meeting of the ECORKWASTE project

Last month, the UPC hosted the Kick-off meeting of the project “Integrated and sustainable management of cork waste generated in the cork industry” (ECORKWASTE - LIFE14 ENV/ES/000460) at Campus Nord. The project, with a total budget of 1.903.898€, was launched in September of this year and is co-financed by the European Union through the LIFE Programme.

The main goal of the project is the demostration of the technical, environmental and economical feasibility of cork waste valorisation according to the cork waste particle size. ECORKWASTE aims to develop a plan for the sustainable management of cork waste to reach its total reuse and revalorisation and it is expected a reuse or energetic valorisation of more than 95% of cork wasted used at the experimentation.

The UPC is the coordinating beneficiary. The associated beneficiaries are: Fundació CTM Centre Tecnològic, Institut Català del Suro, INNOVI i TYPSA (Tècnica y Proyectos, SA).
