Snow is a well known natural resource. On the one hand, it is a water source and provides enjoyment for sport lovers, but on the other, it is a problem because of the risk of accidents and avalanches. This course will look at these two aspects by studying the formation of snow, as a manifestation of the water, and its subsequent use when it melts. Other topics the course will deal with are: to identify animal tracks and look at their habitats, how ski resorts operate and related issues: water collection to generate artificial snow, energy consumption, safety, first aid in case of accident, snow sports and extreme sports, leisure. Finally, the course will also focus on the study of the conditions for the occurrence of avalanches, measures to avoid this risk, and performance protocols if they occur.

The blended course combines 20h of lectures, workshops and field visits and 10h of online activities supported by Atenea Campus.
